How to reply to education posts on X: angles and examples

Who posts about teaching and learning on X, the reply angles teachers and students respond to, six sample replies and the mistakes to avoid.

Education on X is teachers sharing what worked in their classroom this week, lecturers and PhD students posting about research and grading, edtech founders, tutors, and parents and students reacting to all of it. Many teachers post in the evening, after the marking is done, and they post concrete things: a lesson plan, a quiz trick, a student's answer that made them laugh.

Replies work because teachers are generous with each other and curious about what other classrooms do. A reply that says what you tried with your own class, at what age, and what went wrong, starts a real exchange. Teachers remember the people who add to their practice, and they reply back.

Die Posts, die dir begegnen

  1. 01

    Classroom wins and tricks

A teacher shares a routine, an exit ticket or a seating plan that changed a lesson. Replies add a variation from a different age group or subject.

  2. 02

    Teacher workload and burnout

Marking at midnight, report season, a long week. These need empathy first and only practical advice when the author asks for it.

  3. 03

    Learning science and study tips

Spaced practice, retrieval, note-taking methods. Replies that report how a method went with real students beat replies that restate the theory.

  4. 04

    Debates about school and edtech

Phones in class, AI and homework, grading policy. Readers want a view from someone in a real classroom, with the detail that makes it credible.

Antwortansätze, die funktionieren

  1. 01

    Say the age and subject

A trick that works with eight-year-olds fails with sixteen-year-olds. Opening with "with my Year 9 chemistry class" makes the rest of the reply believable.

  2. 02

    Report what broke

The most useful reply under a teaching tip is the honest version: we tried it, it worked for two weeks, then students gamed it. Here is the change that fixed it.

  3. 03

    Share the student's words

A short, anonymous quote of something a student said (no names, nothing identifying) is the detail teachers love to read. It shows you were in the room.

  4. 04

Offer the shortcut, not the theory

Teachers have little time. A reply that gives the five-minute version of a method, or the template you use, beats a reply that cites the research behind it.

  5. 05

    Ask about the setup

Class size, lesson length and timetable change everything. A precise question about the setup shows you take the post seriously and often gets a long, friendly answer.

Tried cold calling with no hands up this term. Participation is way up, but two of my quieter students look terrified every lesson.

Antworten

we give the question, 30 seconds to write an answer, then cold call. the quiet ones read what they wrote instead of making it up live. took the fear out for most of mine.

It's 11pm and I still have 64 essays to mark. Every year I promise myself I'll set fewer essays.

Antworten

The year I marked only the conclusion paragraph on drafts and gave one comment each, my evenings came back and the final essays didn't get worse. Hang in there tonight.

Unpopular opinion: flashcard apps are overrated for most students. They memorise the card, not the idea.

Antworten

Agree for vocab-style cards. When my students write the card as a question that needs a reason ("why does X happen") instead of a definition, they do much better on transfer questions.

A student asked me today why we still learn long division when phones exist. I didn't have a great answer on the spot.

Antworten

my answer that landed with a 12 year old: you don't need to do it often, you need to know when the phone's answer is obviously wrong. then we checked a wrong one together.

Our school just banned phones for the whole day, breaks included. Week one: lunchtime is loud, kids are playing cards again.

Antworten

Cards appearing in week one is such a good sign. Curious what happens around week four, when the novelty wears off. Ours went quiet again until someone brought a chess set.

PhD students: what's the one thing you wish your supervisor had told you in year one?

Antworten

that a weekly half page of what I did and what is stuck would save every meeting. I started it in year three and the meetings went from 1 hour to 20 minutes.

Fehler, die du vermeiden solltest

  • Telling teachers they get long holidays under a workload post.
  • Posting about real students in a way that could identify them, even in a kind story.
  • Answering a classroom tip with research citations and no sign you have taught.
  • Pitching your edtech product under a teacher's burnout post.
  • Assuming every school system works like yours. Ask before you correct.
