How to reply to career posts on X: angles and examples

Who posts about careers on X, the reply angles that get read under job, hiring and salary posts, six sample replies and the mistakes to skip.

Career posts on X come from recruiters, hiring managers, people between jobs, engineers and designers a few years in, and coaches who sell CV reviews. The topics repeat: interviews, offers, layoffs, promotions, salary talks, quitting. The audience is huge because almost everyone has a job or wants a better one.

That is why replies work here. Most readers have lived some version of the post, so a reply with one concrete detail from your own hiring or job search is read as proof. A reply from someone who sat on the other side of the table is the most useful thing under a career post, and people follow the person who wrote it.

I post che incontrerai

  1. 01

    Hiring advice threads

A recruiter or manager lists what they look for in a CV or an interview. Replies add the view from the candidate side, or a case where the rule did not hold.

  2. 02

    Job search updates

Someone shares that they applied to 80 roles, got two calls and one offer. These need warmth and, when asked, one practical tip.

  3. 03

    Salary and negotiation stories

A post about asking for more and getting it, or a script for the money conversation. Replies add the exact wording that worked, or the follow-up question an employer asked.

  4. 04

    Hot takes about work

Return to office, job hopping, titles, four-day weeks. Large reach and many replies, so only a specific counterexample stands out.

Approcci di risposta che funzionano

  1. 01

Speak from the other side of the table

If the post is from a candidate, answer as someone who has hired. If it is from a recruiter, answer as someone who has been screened. The second view is the one readers lack.

  2. 02

    Give the exact words

Career advice is vague by default. A reply that quotes the one sentence you used in a negotiation, or the email you sent after a rejection, gets saved and shared.

  3. 03

    Name the stage

Advice changes with seniority. Point out where a tip works for a first job and breaks at staff level, or the reverse. It shows experience without bragging.

  4. 04

Add the boring step people skip

Reference checks, notice periods, the HR call after the offer. Pointing at the unglamorous step that decides the outcome reads as real knowledge.

  5. 05

    Ask what happened next

Under a story with a cliffhanger ("I turned down the counteroffer"), a precise question about the next week often pulls a follow-up post from the author.

Hot take: a cover letter in 2026 is a waste of everyone's time. I have never read one.

Rispondi

the one place I still read them is career changers. a CV can't explain why a nurse wants to be a product manager, three lines in a letter can.

Pubblica

Got the offer. They came in 8% under my ask. Do I push back or take it? First job after the layoff, a bit scared to lose it.

Rispondi

Push back once, kindly, with a number. In the years I hired, nobody pulled an offer over a polite counter. They did sometimes say no, and the offer stayed.

Pubblica

Recruiters: stop ghosting candidates after the final round. It takes two minutes to send a no.

Rispondi

Often the recruiter is waiting on a hiring manager who won't decide. Not an excuse, but asking "who is the decision with right now?" gets you a real answer faster.

Pubblica

The best career advice I ever got: always be the one who writes the meeting notes.

Rispondi

Works until you're senior and it becomes your job forever. at some point you have to hand the notes to someone newer and give them the same chance.

Pubblica

Applied to 140 jobs in 3 months. 6 first calls, 2 final rounds, 0 offers. Not sure what I'm doing wrong at this point.

Rispondi

2 final rounds from 6 calls means your CV and your first call are fine. the gap is late stage. Did either company tell you who they picked and why?

Pubblica

Manager here. The single biggest predictor of who gets promoted on my team: they tell me about problems before I find them.

Rispondi

And they bring the problem with a guess at the fix, even a wrong one. The ones who only flag it make you do the thinking twice.

Errori da evitare

  • Replying to a layoff or rejection post with a pitch for your CV service or course.
  • Generic encouragement like "you've got this" with nothing else. It is kind, and it disappears among fifty identical replies.
  • Giving salary figures as facts about a market you do not work in.
  • Lecturing a recruiter or manager on how hiring works when they do it every day.
  • Turning every career post into a fight about remote work.
