50 April Fools tweet ideas: funny, brand and personal

A good April Fools tweet is believable for about three seconds. The joke works when it sits close to something your followers already expect from you, then tips over into the absurd. A wild claim from nowhere just reads as noise on a day when every feed is full of fake announcements.

Every tweet on this page is original, written for you to post or adapt. Square brackets mark the bits to fill in.

For brands, the safest jokes poke fun at yourself: your pricing, your roadmap, your support queue. Personal accounts do better with small, relatable confessions than with elaborate hoaxes. Below are 50 ideas, grouped by who is posting.

How to make it land

  • Post in the morning of your audience's time zone. In many countries the tradition ends at noon, and a joke that lands in the evening reads as confused.
  • Keep it close to plausible. A fake feature your users half want gets replies; a fake moon base gets scrolled past.
  • Never joke about things that cost people money or cause worry: price hikes, shutdowns, layoffs, data breaches, health news.
  • If you are a brand, reveal the joke the same day in a reply under the post, so screenshots shared later still carry the context.
  • Skip it if something serious is happening in your field that week. A quiet thank-you post is always an option.
