50 Mother's Day tweet ideas: sweet, funny and for brands

A good Mother's Day tweet sounds like you and not like a greeting card. One specific memory, like the way she packed your lunch or the advice she gave that turned out right, carries more than "best mom ever."

Every tweet on this page is original, written for you to post or adapt. Square brackets mark the bits to fill in.

The day is also hard for a lot of people: those who lost their mom, who don't talk to her, who are trying to become one. The list below includes a few tweets for them, and the tips cover how brands can post without stepping on that.

Tweets for your mom

  1. 01

My mom drove me to every practice for eight years and never once told me I was bad at it. I was bad at it. Happy Mother's Day.

  2. 02

Happy Mother's Day to the woman who still texts me "did you eat" at 9pm. Yes mom. Mostly.

  3. 03

Everything I know about showing up for people, I learned watching my mom do it without being asked.

  4. 04

Mom, you were right about the jacket. And the job. And that guy. Happy Mother's Day.

  5. 05

My mom is the only person who has read every single thing I've ever written online. Including this. Hi mom.

  6. 06

happy mother's day to my mom who taught me how to cook by letting me burn things and eating them anyway

  7. 07

She worked two jobs and still came to the school play. I didn't understand what that cost until I was an adult.

  8. 08

Calling my mom today and letting her talk for as long as she wants. That's the gift.

  9. 09

My mom's best advice: "Go to bed. It will look smaller in the morning." It always did.

  10. 10

Happy Mother's Day to my mom, who has somehow never lost an argument and never once raised her voice.

  11. 11

I get my laugh from my mom. People hear it across rooms. Sorry to everyone, thank you to her.

  12. 12

To my stepmom: you didn't have to love us like your own. You did anyway. Happy Mother's Day.

  13. 13

Happy Mother's Day to my grandma, who raised two generations and still sends birthday cards with five dollars in them.

  14. 14

My mom saved every drawing I ever made. I found the box last year. I'm still not okay.

Funny Mother's Day tweets

  1. 15

My mom asked what I got her for Mother's Day and I said "a well-adjusted adult child" and she said "so nothing."

  2. 16

Mom's love language is forwarding me articles with no comment.

  3. 17

My mom has one setting for phone calls: start mid-story about a person I've never heard of.

  4. 18

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms who said "because I said so" and turned out to be right most of the time.

  5. 19

My mom can find anything in the house in four seconds. I've been looking for my keys since Tuesday.

  6. 20

Bought my mom flowers. She asked how much they cost. Mother's Day is going great.

  7. 21

every mom has a voice she uses for the phone and it is a completely different person

Mother's Day breakfast in bed, as made by an 8-year-old: cold toast, a full glass of orange juice balanced on a pillow, and pure love.

  10. 24

My mom still says "take a sweater" and I still don't and I'm still cold.

  11. 25

Me: I'm an adult. My mom: did you remember to call the dentist? Me: ...

  12. 26

Moms who say "I don't want anything for Mother's Day" mean "I want you to clean the kitchen without being asked."

For moms, and for people who find the day hard

  2. 28

First Mother's Day as a mom. I finally understand why mine cried at every single school concert.

  3. 29

Mom of three here. My Mother's Day wish is one hot coffee, drunk sitting down, start to finish.

  4. 30

If your mom isn't here anymore, today can be heavy. Go easy on yourself. Mute the word if you need to.

  5. 31

Thinking of everyone trying to become a mom and still waiting. Today is a lot. You're allowed to skip it.

  6. 32

  7. 33

Working moms: you did the school pickup, the deadline and the dinner. Nobody saw. Today I see you.

  8. 34

My first Mother's Day without her. I'm going to make her soup and eat it on the porch. That feels right.

  9. 35

To moms of teenagers who got a grunt instead of a card: they'll write the card in fifteen years. It'll be a good one.

  10. 36

Happy Mother's Day to every dog and cat mom who will be woken up at 5am by a pet demanding breakfast anyway.

How to make it land

  • One memory beats a list of compliments. Tell the small story, like the lunch notes or the drive to practice, and let readers fill in their own mom.
  • Check the date for your audience. The US, Canada and much of Europe celebrate in May, the UK in March, and other countries on other days.
  • Brands: offer an opt-out from Mother's Day emails before you send them. People who lost a parent remember which companies did that.
  • Tag your mom only if she's actually on X and would enjoy it. A public post she never sees is mostly for your followers.
  • A photo of a handwritten card or an old snapshot often does better than the words alone. Keep the caption short.
