50 birthday tweet ideas: yours, a friend's and your brand's

Birthday tweets work when they say something only you could say. For your own, that's one honest line about the year. For a friend's, it's the inside joke or the moment they showed up for you. For a brand's anniversary, it's what changed since day one and who you have to thank for it.

Every tweet on this page is original, written for you to post or adapt. Square brackets mark the bits to fill in.

Below are 50 tweets for all three, plus a group of jokes about getting older. Fill in the age, the name and the details. Specific beats sentimental.

How to make it land

  • On your own birthday, post one honest line about the year and reply to every message. The replies thread becomes the celebration.
  • For a friend, use their handle and an inside detail only you would know. A generic "happy birthday" tweet reads like a notification.
  • Brand anniversaries land best with a real number from your own history, like first users, first release or first office, and a thank-you to customers by name if they agree.
  • Pair an anniversary tweet with something useful: a feature people asked for, a small discount, or a look back at the first version.
  • Add an old photo or a screenshot of day one. A rough first landing page next to today's does more than any caption.
