50 good morning tweet ideas that are more than "gm"

A plain "gm" works if you already have an audience that knows you. For everyone else, a good morning post needs one small real detail: the weather outside your window, the coffee that is not working yet, the task you are about to avoid. That detail is what people reply to.

Every tweet on this page is original, written for you to post or adapt. Square brackets mark the bits to fill in.

These 50 good morning tweets cover the quiet, the tired, the routine and the questions. Use them as they are or change the [brackets] to your city, your project and your morning.

Good mornings that don't sound like a greeting card

  1. 01

good morning to everyone who's awake but not yet ready to talk about it

  4. 04

Woke up before the alarm and felt like a genius for about four seconds.

  5. 05

gm. one coffee down, all decisions pending.

  6. 06

Good morning. Today I'm doing one thing well instead of six things badly. Ask me at noon how that's going.

  7. 07

Morning thought: the bed is never more comfortable than at the exact moment you have to leave it.

  8. 08

Good morning to the people replying to emails before 7am. I see you. I don't understand you, but I see you.

  9. 09

Early start. Empty street, loud kettle, and about an hour before anyone needs me.

  10. 10

Good morning. Opened the curtains, saw the weather, closed the curtains. Trying again in ten minutes.

  11. 11

Morning check: slept okay, coffee's hot, nothing is on fire yet. Strong start.

  12. 12

Good morning to anyone running on four hours of sleep and pure stubbornness.

  13. 13

The first sip of coffee is the only part of the morning I'd defend in court.

  1. 14

My morning routine: alarm, snooze, guilt, alarm, coffee, check phone, regret checking phone.

  2. 15

    Tried a 5am routine for a week. Learned I'm a 7am person with a 5am person's ambitions.

  3. 16

  4. 17

Work-from-home morning routine: commute from bed to desk, stopping only at the kettle.

How to make it land

  • Add one concrete detail to every good morning post. The weather, the time, the task. Without it, the post blends into every other "gm".
  • Post when your audience wakes up, not when you do. If most of your followers are six hours behind you, a morning tweet can go out at lunch.
  • Questions do well in the morning because people are scrolling before work and happy to answer something easy.
  • If you post a good morning every day, change the format often. A daily post that reads the same every time stops getting seen.
  • The replies under good morning posts are friendly and quick. Reply back to each one; it is a cheap way to build real connections with the people who follow you.
